Authentic journalism isn't the easiest path to follow, but it's the only path that leads forward.

The Fund for Authentic Journalism was formed on January 5, 2006, for exclusively charitable and educational purposes (a 501c3 nonprofit), including the support of public-interest journalism by grants to independent reporters and related training for journalists in the field; the education of the public about the important or underreported issues in international affairs, particularly relating to democracy in the Americas; and the promotion of media education and critical understanding of journalism among the public.
Over the past two decades, the Fund has provided personal grants to multiple individuals to support their original journalism; sponsored many projects focused on authentic journalism, social movements and organizing skills, including The Narco News Bulletin, which covered the drug war and related social movements in multiple languages; the No Nukes Oral History Project; and numerous authentic journalism workshops, field-training exercises and presentations offered in the U.S. and Latin America.
The term "Authentic Journalism" was coined by Mario Menéndez, the founding director of Por Esto! newspaper. Menéndez championed a journalism that remains close to the people, untainted by political or corporate interests. His legacy inspires us to always tell the truth, amplify the voices of the oppressed, and celebrate the victories of those who fight for a better world.
