About the Fund
WHAT IS AUTHENTIC JOURNALISM?
Authentic Journalism reports on social movements that seek to improve the quality of life for oppressed communities. The term was used frequently by Mario Menéndez, the founding director of the Mexican newspapers Por qué? and Por Esto!, and the only publisher to report on the 1968 Tlaltelolco student massacre immediately after it took place.
Menéndez rejected the notion of “objectivity,” and championed a journalism that remains close to the people, untainted by political or corporate interests. He worked closely with Fund for Authentic Journalism supported projects. His legacy inspires us to always tell the truth, amplify the voices of the oppressed, and celebrate the victories of those who fight for a better world.
The Fund for Authentic Journalism is a nonprofit 501(c)3 corporation based in the United States dedicated to the promotion of Authentic Journalism and in peer-to-peer education of journalists covering social movements in the Americas and around the world.
